Our prime and rustic grades are determined by the knot, sapwood and colour content.
Prime grade has few, if any knots, and these will be of
minimal size. Core or edge sapwood and filler will be negligible if
any at all.
There will be a relatively small amount of colour variation in the timber itself with no heart wood.
Rustic grade allows for the mixture of natural grain and
knots. Sound knots of up to 60mm and dead knots up to 25mm are
acceptable. Heartwood is allowed and there will be colour variation, also expect minimal core and edge sapwood, plus filler. The colour
of the filler is carefully selected to complement the wood rather than to match it exactly and it may vary from batch to batch.
Our textured floors are achieved using both unique and conventional techniques.
The Bandsawn textured floors have traditional cut marks
across the face of the floor, a process that
can be adjusted for depth of the impression.
Tumbled floors are distressed to replicate as if they have experienced a long and hard life, achieving a look that is genuinely old.
Brushing opens up the grain. Light, medium and heavy options are available, this process enhances the natural beauty of the wood.
Our torched wood is achieved using a clever and unique manufacturing process and can be repeated for the required result.
With the same principals on how we define a woods grade, the smoking
process is to dictated by certain factors. Any colours
accomplished using the smoking process use controlled measures to achieve either the light, medium, dark smoked and fumed finish.
They are however still a product of nature and so they will react with the natural tannins in oak in variation.
This must be understood when choosing this kind of floor.
